Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights University of Ottawa (SPHR) is a student run, non-profit organization that advocates on a strong social justice platform to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people in the face of human rights violations and all forms of racism, discrimination, misinformation and misrepresentation.

ELECTIONS

SPHR U of O will be having the elections for the 2008-09 Board of Executive Directors on April 11, 2008 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm (location to be determined). All members are free to run, and we encourage you all to come out and vote.

Positions and descriptions:


Secretary
To provide overall co-ordination to the group and its leaders, chairing and preparing agendas for meetings, and upholding the constitution.

Membership Development and Campaigns Director

To raise the profile of SPHR U of O on campus, and to implement recruitment strategies through campaigns and other activities.

To maintain and update the database of members and active members.

To maintain the necessary correspondence with the SPHR U of O membership and potential membership.

Finance & Fundraising Director

Responsible for financial transaction and ensuring that they are congruent with SFUO policies.

To report on the financial status of the organization to the membership periodically.

Charged with implementing fundraising strategies to fund the association.

To seek out internal and external sponsorship opportunities.

Organizational Director

The Organizational Director will be responsible for the internal structures of the association, including, but not limited to, organizing meetings, writing down the minutes of every meeting, booking rooms and equipment for events, and booking information tables.

Information & Research Director

The Information and Research Director will be responsible for gathering up-to-date information on the situation in Palestine and for maintaining the resource center.

To take responsibility for preparing materials for information tables on a regular basis and updating the information on those tables.

To certify all the information and material with Protection Services.

Media Relations Director

Responsible for all affairs pertaining to the media; including but not limited to, issuing press releases, writing letters to the editor and facilitating media interviews.

Ideally, the Media Relations Director should be bilingual, in order to communicate with both English and French media.

Advertising Director

To design and produce advertising material related to SPHR activities. Duties include but are not limited to creating, printing, and stamping posters, flyers, and tickets for events and campaigns.

To regularly update and maintain the SPHR U of O website.

Internal Affairs Director

To create and maintain relations with other organizations which, are sympathetic to the struggle of the Palestinian people, on campus.

To maintain relations with OPIRG and SFUO, including but not limited to attending meetings related to Action Group Status and Club status respectively.

External Relations Director

The External Relations shall act as the contact with other SPHR branches and attend their meetings if applicable.

To create and maintain relations with other organizations which are sympathetic to the struggle of the Palestinian people, off campus.
